International Data Corporation (IDC) believes that Sony will dominate the console market by 2016. The research firm based its statements on the sale statistics of the Sony’s latest reveal PS4 in comparison to others. PS4 already covers majority of the market with a global sale of 51 million units.
The firm also expects Xbox One to capture its market in North America and also unbundle Kinect from the console although Microsoft haven’t confirmed such steps.
IDC explained to GI International,” The presumed unbundling of Kinect and Xbox One, which should facilitate rough price parity between it and the PS4, should lead to a spike in Xbox One sales; assuming the console and sensor are unbundled in 2015, IDC expects Xbox One to recover and emerge with the largest installed base of any console in North America by the end of 2016.”
The firm also mentioned about the growing popularity of the digital games in comparison to the physical games off late and how the disc business is going downwards.
The firm is also worried about the gap between Nintendo’s Wii U and the others. They believe the $50 global price slash towards late 2014 or early 2015 of the console won’t help although it is worth trying.
