Social media company Twitter has revealed the most discussed games on the platform, and Genshin Impact tops the list.
The game, which also topped the 2021 list of most discussed games, is the most popular game on Twitter by far. It comes above Wordle, which swept across the world this year thanks to its daily puzzles.
Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game inspired by Breath of the Wild. It’s free to play, but players can spend money to try to unlock rarer characters using the gacha system in the game. It’s developed and published by miHoYo.

It’s no surprise that Genshin Impact tops the list if you’ve ever looked at the game while its trending. The game has an extremely strong fanbase of dedicated players. It’s also huge across the globe, particularly countries in Asia.
What made the list?
The top ten most discussed games are as follows:
- Genshin Impact
- Wordle
- Ensemble Stars
- Final Fantasy
- Project Sekai
- Apex Legends
- Elden Ring
- Fate/Grand Order
- Valorant
- The Legend of Zelda
A lot of these games are big in Japan, which is where a lot of video game related tweeting is done. So it makes sense that popular titles over there have a higher place on this list. It also explains why some big games in western countries won’t be found on the list.
Games that made the list in previous years include Animal Crossing and Minecraft. Animal Crossing in particular made major waves during the pandemic when everyone was stuck inside. The game released at the perfect time for many of us, and took the internet by storm.
Apparently, the United States is the country after Japan that tweeted the most about video games. South Korea then comes in at third place. The UK is the only country in Europe that reached the top ten, coming in at ninth place.
