The Secret World
An MMORPG that takes place in the contemporary setting of different cities around the globe, The Secret World shows us how occult forces took over the world. The player can choose to join one of the three secret societies that try to repel the attacks of various Lovecraftian entities and other immortal fiends. The Secret World has a very unique atmosphere, mixing elements from Norse mythology with exotic locations such as the zombie infested New England, the vampire populated Transylvania and the Oni-demons haunted Tokyo.
XIII
Based on the eponymous first five volumes of the 1984 Belgian graphic novel series, XIII tells the story of Jason Fly, an amnesiac man who is accused of murdering the US President. This accusation proves to have been bogus as a group of 20 conspirators who intend to overthrow the government are discovered to be the real culprits. XIII features a first-person shooter gameplay with stealth and action elements and it spans over 13 chapters and 54 missions and it definitely is a beautifully drawn gaming title that offers quite an intricate plotline.
Beyond Good & Evil
Beyond Good & Evil is an action-adventure video game that follows the ventures of an investigative photo reporter and martial artist named Jade. She is working with a resistance movement and their goal is to unveil a conspiracy that takes place on planet Hyllis, located in a distant sector of the galaxy. The underground resistance movement named ‘the Iris’ is struggling to undo the plans of a military dictatorship known as the Alpha Sections that is thought to be working with Hyllis’s main threat the DomZ aliens. Jade’s role in this intricate conspiracy is to help the resistance by obtaining photographic evidence, solving puzzles and even engaging in combat.
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Sam Fisher, a seasoned spy, is working for the Fourth Echelon to stop a group of terrorists who is trying to strong-arm the United States to recall all of the military companies stationed abroad. The spymaster is able to use all kinds of tactics to stop the Engineers from blowing up all the military operations while trying to find out who is funding this whole conspiracy. Stealth moves or full frontal fights are two very different but equally successful approaches. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist is noted for its intense gameplay and varied mission design.
Metal Gear Solid Series
The first four installments of the Metal Gear Solid game series have storylines heavily based on all kinds of conspiracies. For example the third title of the franchise, follows the hero Naked Snake as he is trying to sabotage a dangerous experimental super weapon and assassinate the man that is in charge of it. Snake, the infamous hero of the Metal Gear Solid games, is always surrounded by conspiracies, faking his own death, living on the edge and constantly chasing or being chased by enemies.
Half-Life
Half-Life is one of the most precious titles from the gaming world and much of the glory is due to its intriguing plotline. Gordon Freeman is the survivor of a disastrous Black Mesa experiment where an unanticipated “resonance cascade” allowed Xen aliens from another dimension to enter the facility through various dimensional seams. Now, Gordon must find his way out of this secret facility by fighting enemies using his iconic crowbar, solving multiple puzzles and ending up meeting the person responsible for this so called “unintentional” mistake. Assassin’s Creed
Desmond Miles is able to access his genetic memories and thus be transported during the time of the Third Crusade where his ancestor Altair was a member of the Secret Order of the Assassins. The plot unfolds and we find out that there is a significant conflict between two factions: The Knights Templar and the Assassins. An ancient artifact named the “Piece of Eden” possesses the power to control minds and this is why the two secret groups are trying to outsmart each other and be the first to get their hands on this precious item.
