Andrew Garfield Lied To Emma Stone About Spider-Man: No Way Home Appearance

Andrew Garfield has said he had to lie to Emma Stone about his role in the new Spider-Man film, No Way Home.

The two of them worked together previously on the Amazing Spider-Man films, starring as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively. They were also in a relationship.

On a podcast, Garfield revealed that Stone kept on texting him to ask whether he was in the new film or not. Due to the secretive nature of his role, he had to keep it under wraps from everyone.

“I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’,” said Garfield. “She was like, ‘Shut up, just tell me.’ I’m like, ‘I honestly don’t know.’ I kept it going, even with her. It was hilarious. Then she saw it, and she was like, ‘You’re a jerk.’”

Web of lies

Referring to him avoiding letting the secret get out, he said, “It was like this massive game of Werewolf that I was playing with journalists and with people guessing, and it was very fun.”

“I don’t like to lie and I’m not a good liar, but I kept framing it as a game. And I kept imagining myself purely as a fan of that character, which is not hard to do.”

Garfield wasn’t the only one to return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. A host of old villains from previous Spider-Man films showed up, including Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Electro. And Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man showed up alongside Andrew Garfield in the film too.
