The Evil Within has been in development for awhile now and is being created by the master of horror, Shinji Mikami. One can wonder though, does Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil, have what it takes to once again, create a truly terrifying survival horror game?
As a veteran Resident Evil fan, I have been eagerly waiting for The Evil Within however, I’m not sure where us hardcore survival horror fans should stand at the moment. For awhile now, survival horror had vanished and has only really become popular again after the success that was The Last of Us. Furthermore, I have began to wonder, has Mikami forgotten the true meaning of horror?
After Resident Evil 4, the series began to edge towards a more action orientated game and by the end of the fifth installment, we had completely lost the horror part of this supposedly survival horror franchise.
I have seen plenty of gameplay and I do believe that The Evil Within could be a mix of past survival horror with present survival horror. Unlike Chris Redfield (Resident Evil), Sebastian (The Evil Within) is not trained for this lifestyle and is much more cautious leaving players to adjust Sebastian in his new environment, but also giving you the ability to flee from a fight instead of holding your ground.
Personally, I’m ecstatic that Mikami is returning to horror and cant wait to play the full game which comes out starting on October 14, 2014 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
