The Batman Has Been Rated PG-13 For Violence And Disturbing Content

The hotly-anticipated Batman film directed by Matt Reeves has been given a PG-13 rating ahead of its release.

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the popular superhero following a brief stint in the role by Ben Affleck. It’s looking to introduce a new standalone Batman universe on the big screen.

Now that the film has been rated, we know we can expect some violence and disturbing content in the upcoming film. Though judging by the trailers, it’s fair to say violence was probably to be expected, so this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.

The new movie seems to be shooting for a much darker tone, leading some people to speculate it could get an R rating. However, it seems the studio prefers to be able to reach as many people as possible.

Violence In Gotham

A PG-13 rating allows for plenty of violence without losing accessibility, which is probably why all the main Batman films have received one. FilmRatings.com lists the film’s “strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language and some suggestive material” as the reason for its rating.

2019’s Joker with Joaquin Phoenix had an R rating. However, that movie is in a separate universe, and seems to have very different themes.

The Batman releases on March 4th, 2022, and stars Paul Dano as the Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
