Sony announced the PS Vita TV at its pre-TGS press conference. It is essentially a PS Vita that connects to your TV, can be played with a DualShock 4 and can stream content from the PS4 and from it’s own apps. Originally only announced for Japan and earlier this week was expanded to South Asian territories. During a roundtable interview, Masayasu Ito told reporters that the interest in the West has been, “strong…more than we expected.”
He continued, “Of course we are thinking of launching it in the US and Europe. But when it comes to the timing, we’ll have to watch the environment and identify what other services are available in the US and Europe and whether we’ll have to add other services. We’ll have to look at all of this before deciding on a launch in Europe and the United States.”
With the rise of small media hubs like Roku, Apple TV and the rush of Android based micro-consoles hitting the market, I think it is safe to say there is a market for a device in that price range that can also play high definition games with a solid controller.
