Sony has confirmed that they have sold more than 80 million PlayStation 3 consoles worldwide over the last seven years since the original launch in November 2006. This follows Microsoft’s October announcement saying the same about the Xbox 360, even though it had nearly a full year’s head start on the PS3.
Excluding digital-only releases, the PS3 has had 4,332 games put out on the platform with an additional 300 titles coming this holiday season. As for the PSN, there are 222,000 pieces of digital content, 72000 of which are for video games or are video games.
The news comes as the PlayStation 4 is gearing up to hit store shelves on November 15th in North America and will hit Europe shelves on November 29nd.
