PlayStation 4 games may be region free, but Blu-Rays are region locked. President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida responded to a question on twitter and confirmed that the PlayStation 4 Blu-Ray player will indeed be region locked.
For those who don’t know, region free means you can buy a game or movie anywhere in the world and it will play on your player. If the player is locked then only content bought in the same region as the player will work. Games were previously announced as region free, so this applies only to Blu-Ray movies.
The PlayStation 4 will launch in North America on November 15th and in Europe on November 29th. It will come to Japan in February of next year.
