Reports and apparent leaks about Nintendo’s upcoming console codenamed NX has been plenty. Although, we knew the console was definitely a thing and Nintendo was planning a launch for it sooner than later, we weren’t sure exactly when it was planning to do so.
Nintendo has now officially confirmed that it’ll be releasing NX in March 2017 worldwide, squashing earlier reports that the company was planning a late 2016 release for the console. This information was revealed during Nintendo’s annual investor call earlier today.
Here’s the official statement regarding the same:
For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.
Nintendo didn’t disclose any more information about the console. It also revealed that the upcoming Legend of Zelda game will be released simultaneously for the Wii U and NX, meaning the game won’t be releasing this year and might actually ship as a launch title for the NX.
It also disclosed that it was planning to release Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for mobile devices, further expanding its reach in the mobile gaming segment. It recently released its first ever mobile app called Miitomo.
It’s official twitter account also confirmed the release date for the NX –
