Witcher fans have reason to rejoice as Netflix is to develop and produce a new TV show based on The Witcher books, which are eight in total, written by Andrzej Sapkowski.

The same books gave birth to one of the most popular and successful RPG series in recent times. It’s most recent iteration Witcher 3 has made an insane amount of money.

The author, who doesn’t profit from the game series, will play the role of creative consultant for the TV adaptation.

I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories,” he explained in a press release, “staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.

There’s good news for gaming enthusiasts as well as the director has been named as Tomas Baginski.

He’s the same guy who made all the intro videos for every Witcher game made to date. He’s also responsible for making the debut trailer for CD Projekt Red’s upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077.

The producers made the following statement:

The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.

He also assured fans that the series will be pretty close to what happens in the books:
There is a moral and intellectual depth in these books which goes beyond genre. It is a story about today and today’s challenges, hidden under a fantasy cover. It is a story about us, about the monster and the hero inside all of our hearts.
Absolutely no other details have been revealed today but we’ll be sure to let you know when they are.
