Netflix Is Starting To Test Adverts Between TV Episodes

Fun’s over, everyone. Being able to binge-watch hours of tv a day is being ruined as Netflix is officially testing adverts between TV episodes.

The most annoying thing about Netflix was when it stopped you and said: “Are you still watching this?” but now… we potentially have to deal with ads.

While many people look at adverts as annoying, they can sometimes be quite handy in helping you find new films to watch that are out at the cinema, or even save money on your car insurance. But if you used Netflix as a bid to escape these adverts, then you should probably know that the streaming service has started testing them in between TV shows – but they claim it’s all to help you, the viewer.

According to IGN and Digital Spy, a spokesperson recently said: “At Netflix, we conduct hundreds of tests every year so we can better understand what helps members more easily find something great to watch.

“A couple of years ago, we introduced video previews to the TV experience, because we saw that it significantly cut the time members spend browsing and helped them find something they would enjoy watching even faster.

“In this particular case, we are testing whether surfacing recommendations between episodes helps members discover stories they will enjoy faster.”

Okay, so it won’t be adverts in the annoying YouTube sense where they have absolutely no relevance, it will actually be apparently tailored to your viewing, and will help cut down on the time it takes you to find popular films/shows that you can binge after you’re finished with what you’re currently watching, but still – is advertising what you want?

Maybe if they add a feature where you, the consumer, can decide if you want to opt in or opt out of the selected advertising then it would be a handy thing to have.
