Netflix Is Making A Bioshock Movie Adaptation

Netflix has announced a Bioshock movie adaptation coming exclusively to its streaming service after heavy rumours late last year seemed to indicate something was stirring.

A Bioshock movie has been in on and off development for years, with Gore Verbinski originally attached to the project. The movie was supposedly going to be R-Rated, according to a recent quote from Verbinski himself.

“It was talked about as one movie. And it was strange, my first meeting at Universal on ‘Bioshock’ was sitting in a room and saying ‘Hey guys, this is a $200 million R rated movie.’ And it was silent. I remember my agent going ‘Why did you say that?’ I’m like, because it is. Why just even trying to kill a movie you haven’t even started?, he said. “That’s before getting a script before anything. I’m just I want to be clear. And I think everybody at the studio was well, yeah, okay, maybe. Wow, no. It’s big, we know.”

However, due to various creative differences and developmental issues over the years Verbinski left the project. Universal Studios attempted to find a new director that met the requirements set out by creator Ken Levine, but with no success.

Netflix has yet to comment on who will be directing, writing and starring in the upcoming Bioshock adaptation. However, it’s a fair assumption that as we move forward, we’ll discover more information. Hopefully it will have greater luck than previous attempts at adapting the game to screen.
