Fingerprints scan are now being required for certain transactions in some Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Gamestop stores. When customers trade in used games, the store keeps track of the customers fingerprints. The reason for this process is to keep thieves from selling stolen goods.
The Philadelphia Police Department says that the company is being proactive by storing the fingerprints in a large database. This practice by the store is only occurring in Philadelphia, and no where else. Only time will tell if this practice becomes more prominent in other Gamestop stores around the country. Fingerprints scans at Gamestop is something that most customers would have a problem with, citing invasion of privacy as a main reason.
