Liam Neeson reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming Naked Gun reboot

Liam Neeson is apparently in negotiations to star in a Naked Gun reboot with director Akiva Schaffer calling the shots.

The original police spoof trilogy was created by David Zucker, his brother Jerry and also Jim Abrahams.

The late Leslie Nielsen starred in the movie as the protagonist, Lieutenant Frank Drebin.

The first Naked Gun was released in 1988 while its two sequels The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear and Naked Gunn 33 1/3: The Final Insult, were released in 1991 and 1994. All were considered commercial successes, but nothing could beat the original.

Now, however, with Schaffer officially coming aboard as director, it’s looking like The Naked Gun reboot is finally happening after 10 years’ worth of rumours. Schaffer is probably best known for working on the underrated Lonely Island movies.

Since reboot rumours first started circulating, there’s been a trio of names attached. These are The Hangover’s Ed Helms, Seth MacFarlane and now Neesan.

However, according to Deadline, Neeson is reportedly in talks to play Frank Drebin’s son, rather than reprise the role of the Lieutenant himself.

As per the Guardian, Neesan reportedly said, “It’ll either finish my career or bring it in another direction. I honestly don’t know.”

The Naked Gun reboot has officially been green lighted.

Who is writing the Naked Gun reboot film?

Elsewhere, Chip ’n’ Dale Rescue Rangers writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand have also signed up for the project.

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane along with Erica Huggins has also been announced to be producing the reboot via their production company, Fuzzy Door.

At this moment in time, plot details and a cast list for The Naked Gun reboot have yet to be revealed.
