Blizzard has revealed that it is working on a new “AAA survival game” for PC and console platforms amid tumultuous takeover plans.
The company shared the news yesterday. They also announced the project will be “different from any other Blizzard has created.”
A post on Blizzard’s website reads, “Blizzard is embarking on our next quest. We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console. A place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored.”
Blizzard’s current big projects include Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4, which have been delayed until 2023. This new game seems to be unconnected to previous titles and something entirely new to Blizzard’s catalogue.
Microsoft + Blizzard
Blizzard is currently facing multiple investigations over alleged sexual harassment and discrimination. Microsoft recently announced they plan to purchase the company in a move expected to take place in 2023. This acquisition will give Microsoft ownership over Blizzard properties such as Overwatch and World of Warcraft, and that presumably includes this new title as well.
But the company’s issue with harassment and discrimination have not been resolved, despite president J. Allen Brack’s departure last year. Employees hope that Microsoft’s purchase of the company will lead to an improved work environment.
