‘Bat Out Of Hell’ Singer Meat Loaf Dies Aged 74

Martin Lee Aday, more commonly known as Meat Loaf, passed away on January 20th 2022 at the age of 74.

Aday’s family broke the news on his Facebook page, saying, “Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends.”

His career spanned both music and Hollywood. The album ‘Bat Out of Hell’ is one of the best selling of all time, and is seen as a rock classic. Alongside his fruitful music career, Meatloaf also starred in a large handful of popular movies. He’s most well known for his roles in Fight Club, Wayne’s World, and Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The Facebook post continues the touching tribute to Meatloaf, saying, “We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.

“We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time. From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!”

Celebrities remember Meat Loaf

Tributes are pouring in online from those who knew the singer. Cher, who duetted with Meatloaf on a track in 1981, said, “Had So Much Fun With Meatloaf When We Did “Dead Ringer”. Am Very Sorry For His Family,Friends,& Fans. Am I imagining It, or Are Amazing Ppl In The Arts Dying every other Day”.

Stephen Fry also recalled fond memories of Meatloaf from when they recorded a sketch together in the 1980’s. “I hope paradise is as you remember it from the dashboard light, Meat Loaf. Had a fun time performing a sketch with him on Saturday Live way back in the last century,” he says. “He had the quality of being simultaneously frightening and cuddly, which is rare and rather wonderful.”

The musician was born in Dallas, Texas in 1947. He is survived by his two daughters, Pearl and Amanda, and his wife Deborah Gillespie.
