WARNING – The following article contains spoilers for Peacemaker Season 1 finale.
The Peacemaker finale has landed online, featuring comes an amazing cameo that nobody really saw coming. In fact, James Gunn himself denied it would happen earlier in the year.
That’s right, the Justice League themselves appear for a brief scene in the episode, which has interesting potential implications for the future of the DCEU. The Justice League roster in question is made up of Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash.
While we don’t see the faces of Superman or Wonder Woman, we do see the faces of both Aquaman and The Flash. They’re played by Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller respectively. This appears to hint at them remaining a part of the DCEU post the release of The Flash. It’s suspected that The Flash movie will reset and reboot the entire DCEU.
What we don’t see is the faces of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman or Henry Cavill’s Superman. It’s likely that Gadot was busy (or indeed, pregnant) during the time, but the absence of Cavill suggests something else entirely for his character. It’s already known that The Flash will reset and reboot certain characters. One that has been widely speculated is Superman. Adding to this idea is the fact that Ben Affleck’s Batman and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg ALSO don’t appear, meaning something may happen in The Flash to erase them from existence. Those in the know already know what happens to Affleck’s Batman, so it’ll be interesting to see if anything else happens in that movie that was foreshadowed here.
Peacemaker Season 1 has seen huge success so far. It was recently renewed for a second season on HBO Max.
