This Survival Game About Escaping Hell Just Smashed Kickstarter Funding Goal

This upcoming game is called Agony but it actually looks like a lot of fun. It’s a survival horror game being developed by a company called Madmind Studios, and it takes place in Hell. They set out initially to raise $66,666, and have currently just cruised past the $130,000 mark.

Their goal isn’t just to create another standard survival horror game though, they’re aiming to create the most terrifying version of Hell that we’ve ever seen in a game. Hell is a fairly common setting in games, we’ve all seen it plenty of times, but let’s see how far they can take it, if they can truly set themselves apart from the pack based on true terror.

The demo was released on November 18th and has had a lot of positive feedback so far from backers, along with a slew of popular Youtubers. They’ve been adding more and more features to the game as they smash past their fundraising goals and are showing no signs of slowing down, especially with a big push tomorrow to encourage all previous backers to toss in an extra $10. Some of the stretch goals they’ve added so far include multiple endings and adding a 3D viewer.

Since they managed to more than double their goal with 10 days to go, they’ve pushing for an extended goal to add VR support to the game. You can visit their kickstarter here to check out their progress.

For a $3,350 contribution, you can be included in the game as a lost soul who is forever trapped in Hell. They’ll model one of the tormented spirits after your face, if you’re into that sort of thing. If you’d rather just stick to the regular game, it’s about $30 for a basic copy, which is a perfectly reasonable price for so much nightmare fuel.

What does Agony have in common with Ark, Gears of War, and Agony all have in common? They’re made using Unreal Engine 4, which is now free for anyone to check out.

Agony is for the gamer who wants to experience Hell. Not Diablo or Doom hell, but something much darker and more sinister.
