Dave Bautista Has More Bad News For Guardians Of The Galaxy Fans

The bad news keeps coming for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise as Dave Bautista reaffirmed his stand-off with Disney.

The actor has been vocal in his criticism of Disney for firing the film’s director James Gunn after a series of old Tweets he sent resurfaced.

Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer in the movies and has previously threatened to walk away from the third instalment should Disney not use the script that Gunn had submitted before his sacking.

Now it seems the actor is unsure whether he can work with Disney at all as he stands firmly by the director.

Appearing on the Jonathon Ross show, when asked about the franchise’s futures, he said, “It’s a bitter-sweet conversation — um, no it’s a bitter-bitter conversation because I’m not really happy with what they’ve done with James Gunn.”

He added, “They’re putting the movie off. It’s on hold indefinitely. To be honest with you I don’t know if I want to work for Disney.”

Fans will be left feeling pretty uneasy about the whole “on hold indefinitely” thing and even if / when the film moves forward it’s beginning to sound increasingly likely that Bautista wouldn’t be part of it.

Losing one of the franchise’s main characters would be another massive blow for Disney, who have been criticised consistently by just about every other cast member.

Last month the full cast of the movie penned an open letter asking for Gunn to be reinstated for the third film, which Chris Pratt shared with his followers on Instagram.

Despite the cast obviously being behind the director, Disney have made it clear that they have no plans to reinstate Gunn and are in no rush to find his replacement.

In the wake of the Tweets coming to light, James Gunn released a statement apologising for the posts that “don’t reflect the person I am today.”

“My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative.”

“I have regretted them for many years since – not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.”

He added:

“Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse.

‘To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all.”
