Daniel Radcliffe Set To Star As Weird Al Yankovic In Upcoming Biopic

Daniel Radcliffe is swapping his wand for a guitar as he’s set to star as Weird Al Yankovic in an upcoming biopic about his life.

As reported by Deadline, the film will star Radcliffe as it explores the weird and wonderful life of comedy musician Al Yankovic. The musician himself is co-writing the movie alongside Eric Appel, who is also directing and producing. “When Weird Al first sat me down against my will and told me his life story, I didn’t believe any of it,” said Appel. “But I knew that we had to make a movie about it.”

The 62-year old Yankovic is a popular American musician who takes a comical approach to his music. He’s renowned for poking fun at pop-culture with multiple albums to his name. He has a storied history with several documented celebrity relationships and Rockstar lifestyle.

When asked about the casting of Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role, Yankovic said, “I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

Daniel Radcliffe obviously rose to fame for his childhood role as Harry Potter. Since then, he’s starred in few high profile movies. Instead, he’s mostly known for his roles in lower budget movies such as Swiss Army Man and Guns Akimbo. He also once played the role of video game developer Sam Houser, the lead writer on many of the Rockstar GTA and Red Dead Redemption games.

The Weird Al Yankovic biopic doesn’t yet have a release date but is due to commence filming soon.
