A Dog’s Purpose is one of those dog movies like Air Bud that’s meant to pull at your heart strings by depicting dogs in a more human manner (The dog’s speak English). It is based based on the best-selling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, and features a wide cast of canine actors who tell a grand tale about reincarnation and friendship. The highly trained dogs featured in the film perform impressively, seemingly acting out a wide variety of complex scenes. They even do stunts!
Seems great, an instant family classic, right? Wrong! The producers of this movie don’t give a shit about dogs. They care about how they can exploit dogs to create a movie that will earn big in the box office. This horrifying footage was recently leaked by TMZ, showing a terrified German Shepherd thrown into turbulent water while the whole film’s cast stands around joking. The dog is clearly scared for his life, and almost drowned. They were filming a scene where the dog is supposed to save a young girl from drowning in a river but ironically the dog had to be saved by a rescue swimmer.
According to TMZ the director Lasse Hallström was present when the scene was filmed and at least one crew member expressed concern over the dog’s treatment. Universal pictures issued the following statement, “Fostering a safe environment and ensuring the ethical treatment of our animal actors was of the utmost importance to those involved in making this film and we will look into the circumstances surrounding this video.”
The film “A Dog’s Purpose,” is set to come out on Jan. 27 and features Britt Robertson, Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad. Very powerful people and wealthy people involved. After the story reached the front page of reddit early Thursday morning, it suspiciously began to receive what appeared to be a mass downvote campaign although the sentiment of most commenters was that this story was important and the movie should be boycotted.
