A Japanese married couple who happen to be world-class CGI Animators, Teruyuki and Yuka Ishikawa have spent the last several years working on an extremely complex CGI character named Saya. Saya is a Japanese teenage schoolgirl who is meticulously designed down to every last hair on her head.
The realistic images are nearing what is known as the “uncanny valley” the hypothesis that human replicas that appear almost but not exactly like real human beings elicit feelings of eeriness and revulsion among some observers.
For the first time, animation featuring Saya has been debuted at the CEATEC tradeshow in Japan. Her movements are a bit rigid in video but the still images are almost indistinguishable from a real human.
