A Halo fan has turned Cortana into actual Hologram

You might think you’re a pretty big Halo fan, you might have all the games on your shelf, you might know your way around Blood Gulch with a blindfold on, maybe even had a few decent online rankings back in the day… but if you haven’t turned Cortana into an actual hologram, step aside.

Cortana is also Microsoft’s version of Siri, a personal assistant that can be somewhat useful sometimes. Usually, she’s just been a voice, but a Halo superfan has turned Microsoft’s Cortana assistant into an actual hologram that sits on your desk. Amazon has their Echo device with Alexa, but it’s still just a tube, and this blows it out of  the water.

Here’s a description from the creator:

“This is a concept Cortana appliance I’ve built. It’s basically what I imagined Microsoft’s version of Alexa or Google Home would be like if they were to use the holographic AI sidekick from the Halo franchise. While still a work in progress, I just wanted to show how it’s coming along.”

It was animated using Unity 3D, and Arduino for the lights. Not only that, but it also has a built-in facial recognition system so that Cortana is always looking directly at you. You can ask her all sorts of questions and she’ll have an answer for you.

It’s still a work-in-progress, but with more and more companies competing for a spot in our home and Apple rumored to be working on a physical version of Siri similar to Amazon’s Echo, Microsoft really needs to give this guy a call.
