Technology has certainly come a long way. According to a Google expert, within the next 12 years, technology will be able to turn us into superhumans.
Your first initial thought is “this is too good to be true. This sounds like something ripped out of a Sci-Fi film.” However, Ray Kurzweil, the Director of Engineering at Google would say otherwise. Since the 90s, Kurzweil has made 147 predictions and currently holds a success rate of 86 percent.
Kurzweil also stated that once we transition into a cybernetic society, we will soon be able to operate computers in our brains and machines will be smarter than human beings.
Additionally, he claims that technology is already paving the way for this societal change, given the fact that a majority of individuals today are glued to their phones, the next step in the technological dependency is wiring our brains to everyday technology.
A self-proclaimed futurists who works on Google’s machine learning project, Kurzweil predicts that by 2029 technological singularity would already be present in our daily routine. “By 2029, computers will have human-level intelligence,” Kurzweil explained during a recent interview at the Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. “That leads to computers having human intelligence, our putting them inside our brains, connecting them to the cloud, expanding who we are.”
He also explained that machines are already increasing our intelligence and by connecting these machines directly to our neocortex, it will allow humans to think more actively.
However, Kurzweil believes that artificial intelligence will not pose a threat to humanity, let’s hope he’s right about that one.
