Far Cry 5’s Gameplay Reveal Showed Some Unexpected Features

There’s no doubt about it- Far Cry 5 is going to be one of the most exciting releases of 2018. Even though the release is pretty far down the line, developer Ubisoft has been generous with information on the game. This week at E3, Ubisoft debuted new gameplay that highlighted some new and unexpected features.

One of the coolest new features Ubisoft has added to the fifth installation in the Far Cry series is the “gun-for-hire” option. As shown in the trailer, the player can pay certain NPCs to assist them on missions.

Based on the information shown in the trailer, there will be at least 3 “mercenaries” to pick from, including local pilot Nick Rye, sniper Grace Armstrong, and canine companion Boomer. It’s tough to tell if there will be additional potential guns-for-hire in the game without more info, but it’s likely there will be more.

Far Cry 5’s setting is a far cry *rimshot* from the exotic locales of the previous games. Instead of the Himalayas or a tropical island, Far Cry 5 takes place in Montana, where a religious cult has started it’s violent takeover of Hope County. Even though the location is new, Far Cry returns with another terribly charismatic villain and an intriguing story to play through. The game releases in February 2018.
