Unity Technologies is one of the largest development platforms in the world. They are currently teaming up with Facebook in order to create a new PC gaming platform. The popular social media phenomenon comes with over 650 million gamers.
This gaming platform will serve as a tool for developers that want to create games strictly for Facebook. Unity is also searching for a way for developers to publish their games to the social media monster without the use of a third-party hosting service. Elliot Solomon, Vice President at Unity Technologies, said the following regarding the partnership:
“Developers channel their talent and passion into creating amazing games, but development is only part of the challenge. Integrating tools that provide effortless access to Facebook’s network is a key part of helping developers find the success they deserve.”
It is reported that Facebook paid more than $250 billion to web-based game developers. Apparently Facebook games such as Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans average around 50 million players each month. The partnership between Facebook and Unity is sure to be nothing short of a massive success if executed properly.
“Our mission is to give people the power to discover, play and share the games they love with the people they care about. Unity is the world’s leading game development platform. It’s great to be working with them to help developers find new audiences for the games they pour their hearts into.” – Leo Olebe, Director of Global Games Partnerships at Facebook
Developers have a short window of time to apply for the closed alpha build of the new export. However, the deadline to apply is August 31.
