Atari Just Revealed What Their New Console Will Look Like

Spoiler: it looks incredible.

Atari’s upcoming console, the Ataribox, combines the wood paneling and ribbed plastic of the past with the sleek, slim, minimalist design of the present. Two versions will be available for purchase: one with wood paneling, and one with red plastic.

At this year’s E3, a teaser was released for the Ataribox. The video didn’t give us much information other than a few glimpses of beautiful wood paneling, elegant black plastics, and a stunning white backlit Atari logo. The console, which didn’t have a name at the time, made waves at the conference. CEO Fred Chesnais was secretive about the console and refused to release any details at E3 other than confirmation that the console would be coming, and that it would be Atari’s first step back into the console gaming world.

Since E3, more information surrounding the Ataribox has come to light. The console will be similar to the Nintendo’s NES and SNES Classic consoles, providing classic games in a modern package. However, the Ataribox may also have new exclusive titles, either unreleased in the past or completely new. Atari hasn’t told us what’s under the hood yet, but we do know that the Ataribox will have 4 USB ports, SD card support, and an HDMI out port.

Unfortunately, even though Atari has been nice enough to give us a little more info on their new console, there is still very little that we know about it. Details like pricing, specifications, game catalogs, and release date are still unknown.
